Here at BOBI, it is often said you are going to get an eclectic mix of bands on each line up. Sometimes, it’s more eclectic than others, but I think BOBI outdid themselves at this one in the eclectic stakes. Tonight was verging on the bizarre it was so eclectic and all the better for it!

Opening the evening was a very “Lincolnshire” proposition indeed. Taking a break from living in a decadent, stately home out in The Wolds, we were graced with the presence of LORD FAYREBANK and a right regal romp it was too. With a dual acoustic Folk-esque approach, the tunes were catchy, witty and dosed with a very local flavour. Highlight for me was the celebration of this land of big skies that is our fine county, name checking Keal Hill, Frieston Shore and other such corners or the Flatlands. The Gothic contingency were very excited to hear a tune entitled something like “My Dog Bit Peter Murphy From Bauhaus”. Based on a true story I’m told.

Great start and it all set the scene nicely for our good mate DAVE FAIREY (His current band is DRIVELHEADS.) with his plugged in guitar and three chords and the truth, though he insists he is working on a fourth. One man army Dave knocked out some great singer-y songwriter-y protest-y nuggets that had us all entertained. Billy Bragg? Yeah, there was a bit of that, but if he was from the Midlands and spent all his time at Sumac Centre gigs. And liked Discharge. Finishing on his classic tale of discovering his girlfriend voted Tory (it was the end of their story) was an inspired move and had the Punk Rockers present getting giddy, though the Newcastle Brown may have had summat to do with that.

Next up an abrupt change of pace and ARKNSAW brought their ripping Metal Mayhem to BOBI! With a powerful and aggressive modern Metal assault on the innocent bystanders and a front man who wasn’t backwards in coming forwards it was a most confrontational affair. At some points there was even the odd moment of Hardcore in there. Brutal stuff! Serrated riffs and a powerhouse rhythm section, ARKNSAW went berserk. The front man’s antics and gravel gargling vocals firing up everyone and inspiring the first “Sports Day in the pit” exploits of the evening. It was getting lively.

Topping the night off, were yet another completely different act to the last one. CHERRYSTONE from Nottingham way got straight in to a dizzying, swirling, not to mention epic moment filled set of Indie Rock that veered between Shoe Gaze and the more heart string tugging sounds of the genre, not to mention a bit of bratty Paramore attitude. Mesmerizing stuff! Then it was all over for another month! Folk, Protest Singer, Metal and Indie Rock. Don’t let me hear you say BOBI don’t cater for everyone!
